INVITATION
2009

The
Kentucky Middle School Football Association (“KYMSFA”) would like to extend an invitation to all middle school football conferences in the Commonwealth of Kentucky to participate in the 2nd Annual Kentucky Middle School Football State Championship for 7th and 8th grade teams.  The first playoff games will be held on October 17, 2009 at fields selected on a regional basis around the Commonwealth.   Quarter-final games will be held during the following week with the Semi-Final and Championship games to be held at the John K. Ford Stadium in Lexington on Saturday, October 31, 2009 and Sunday, November 1, 2009.

KYMSFA member 7th and 8th grade middle school champion teams of each middle school football conference and/or their respective conference runner-up, is eligible for the State Championship, together with selected teams that play independent of a conference based upon overall record for qualification. A points system will be used to determine the higher seeded team for the playoff and selection of qualifying independent teams.

For 2009, teams will be assigned as Division I (male enrollment >175) or Division II (male enrollment of 175 or less) based upon the male population of each middle school football program’s enrollment as provided in the KDE Ethnic Grade Reporting System for 2007 or other reliable date provided to the KYMSFA.

·                     Division I will consist of up to thirty-two (32) teams to be selected to play in the 8th grade Division I State Championship Playoffs.

·                     Division II will consist of up to sixteen (16) teams to be selected to play in the 8th grade Division II State Championship Playoffs.

·                     7th Grade will remain at one division with up to sixteen (16) qualifying teams.

Conferences will be asked to nominate a team which would elect to play in a Division two Championship for small football team programs.  A eight (8) to sixteen (16) team championship will be structured based upon conference nominated teams (nominations should be based upon the best small team within the conference) and up to (2) selected qualifying independent team (based upon record and strength of schedule).

A Division II team will automatically qualify by being the winner or runner up of a conference.  For more information on qualifying or tournament structure please contact the KYMSFA State Championship Coordinator, Coach Jeff Mann at qtrhoss13@windstream.net.

KYMSFA rules will apply to the State Championship.  Please see  KYMSFA State Championship 2009 Rules for additional information.  State Championship trophies and KYMSFA All State Team awards will be provided.
