FBU 2009 Youth All-American Bowl – KY Player Selection Presentation

FBU 2009 Youth All-American Bowl Kentucky KYSMSFA Selection Presentation

Today we make history by introducing to you the 1st Kentucky middle school players selected to play in the FBU Youth All-American Bowl. The first player announced eight years ago was Kevin Jones currently playing for the Chicago Bears. Today, like 8 years ago we will be announcing the very first Kentucky FBU Youth All-Americans.

The US Army All-American Bowl has become a platform for tomorrow’s college and NFL stars to showcase their skills in front of a live national audience and become the nation’s premier high school sporting event. The game has featured a host of stars that have made their mark at the next level – NFL stars and first-round picks include Adrian Peterson, Reggie Bush, Vince Young and Tommie Harris. Current college standouts include Tim Tebow, Chris “Beanie” Wells, and Joe McKnight, and highly touted college freshman Terrelle Pryor, Darrell Scott and Michael Floyd have showcased their talents in San Antonio’s Alamodome.

From more than three million youth football athletes around the country, only the nation’s top players will receive the invitation to take the field on January 4th at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Now it is my privilege and honor to announce that the following Kentucky Middle School Football players have been selected as 2009 FBU Youth All-Americans:

The KY – KYMSFA 7th Grade players:

  •                      From Bowling Green Junior High – Tyler Jopes – Defensive Captain – 7th Grade State Champion Bowling Green Purples, Southern Kentucky Middle School Athletic Conference  (SKMSAC) 1st Team All-Conference Linebacker.  Coach Joel Taylor says, “Tyler is an excellent example of the young men we have the opportunity to work with here at Bowling Green Junior High School. Tyler is an outstanding young man in the classroom and on the football field. The entire coaching staff is excited that Tyler was selected to the All-American team.   We are looking forward to seeing Tyler compete with some of the best players in the country.  I know he will represent Bowling Green Junior High Football and the Bowling Green School System in a first class manor.

  •                     From Lexington Catholic Middle School Football – Noah Mitchell Mitchell #8 helped lead the Knights to their 4th straight Gridiron Football Conference Championship and the semi-finals of the Kentucky Middle School Football State Championship.  During the 2008 football season, Mitchell, a team captain, had 12 TDs on 613 rushing yards; 142 receiving yards and 291 passing yards at RB and 29 tackles, 17 assists and lead his team with 3 interceptions at strong safety.  He was named to the Kentucky Middle School Football Association 7th Grade All-State Team at safety and the 2008 Leadership Award by his teammates.  In 2007, Mitchell starting at CB was the 1st 6th grader to ever be named to the All Conference Team.  Lexington Catholic Middle School football Coach Winston Guy stated that in my 5 years of coaching the program, I have had the pleasure of working with a lot of players, however this kid Noah Mitchell is a standout, hard hitter with the football mentality to succeed at the national level.  In the 2 years of coaching Noah, he has become a football playmaker, a leader and a champion.  He is a student in the classroom with tremendous personality for the game.  I am proud to be his coach and the opportunity for him to show his skills in this national game in the Alamo Dome.

  •                      From Lexington Catholic Middle School Football – Josh MesmerMesmer #74 a dominate player at right guard on offense and linebacker on defense.  Josh was instrumental in helping the Knights to a 4th straight Conference Championship.   On defense, Josh was the defensive captain with 24 tackles, 23 assists and lead his team with 2 sacks.  He was awarded the Knights Defensive MVP, Best Lineman, and Big Hitter.  In 2007, Josh was a rare starter as a 6th grader.  Lexington Catholic Middle School football defense coach Patrick Medley stated that Josh is a defensive coach’s playmaker.  Josh would dominate an offense and always gives 110%.  It is no surprise that Josh would be selected to play in this national game.

The KY – KYMSFA 8th Grade Players:

  •           From Bell County Middle School Football – Corey Osolonian – Quarterback, Defensive Back. Passed for 862 yards during the season and completed for a total of 23 touchdown passes.  He ran the ball for a total of 12 touchdowns. •                     From Woodford County Middle School Football – Ridge Jackson Woodford County Middle School Coach Kent Berry – I had the great opportunity to coach Ridge this year. He is one of the most intense players I have met and full of intensity all the time.  Jackson played offensive guard and was very good at that position   He has good technique, is quick on his feet, and very strong with his hands and arm which allowed us to run our running game behind him. Ridge is also a very smart offensive player; he makes sound decisions at all times. On defense, he was an outside linebacker and one of the hardest hitters I have seen.

  •                      From Lexington Catholic Middle School Football – Kyle Bolin – Bolin #4, a 3 year starter at QB finished his middle school career for the Knights with a record of 30 -2; in his 8 games in the 2008 season, which was cut short due to a collar bone injury, Kyle passed for 886 yds on 42 of 90 completions with 15 passing TDs and 2 rushing TDs; Kyle was awarded his team’s leadership award during all 3 years, MVP for 2 years, and the Gridiron All-Conference Team for 2 years.  Kyle was also named MVP of the Battle in the Heartland Jamboree.  He is an FBU alumni having moved up to high school division.  Lexington Catholic Middle School football Coach Greg Mitchell stated that Kyle is one of those rare athletes that is a student of the game.  He can do things at QB that many players do not master until the professional level.  Kyle will represent the finest of Lexington Catholic football.  It has been an honor to be his coach.
